Group Roles

After assembling our group the first order of business would be to establish the roles within our group. The roles are as follows:

  • Director (Gabby)- Gabby was in a different group for the first group film, but was the director of that group. Unfortunately, one of her original groupmates took over their entire film, leaving very little room to execute her role as director. However, I know she has strong leadership skills and will be able to do her job of preserving the group's creative vision well - partially due to her extensive prior knowledge.
  • Cinematographer (Me)- Though I have a strong creative vision for this film, I did a generally subpar job as a director in the last film. My desire to remain non-confrontational and not nag my groupmates led to a bevy of issues relating to competing visions for the finished film and miscommunication. Due to the issues that came from me being the director of the first film I just believed it best to have a new role for this film. The other reason I decided to be the cinematographer is that the camera my group will be using is my mother's Nikon D750 camera, and I trust no one other than myself to handle that camera - I'd be in major trouble if anything happened to it. Overall though I look forward to being the cinematographer as I can still have some creative freedom with this role, and I can help the viewers see the film how I do in my mind.
  • Editor (Bella)- Though Bella was the cinematographer in the previous film I know she has experience working with editing technology and was more than willing to take on this role. She's a hard worker, and I know she'll maintain the group's creative vision as opposed to running with her own vision for the film.
  • Sound Design (Luise)- Though Luise doesn't have any experience with doing sound design she has the rest of the group to help her. It is a difficult role and by taking it on, she is demonstrating her dedication to this project. She too is a team player and I know will help preserve the group's creative vision for the film.
This group will have no issues with communication - an issue I'm happy will be avoided due to it being a major problem in my last film. I look forward to taking on my new role as the cinematographer. As a cinematographer, I aim to expand my knowledge of how to take quality shots as well as learn the technical/mechanical complexities of what goes into taking a good shot.
